Resins and plastics production utilizes manufacturing equipment that requires a broad range of flexibility in operation. Reaction vessels may be operated at very different temperatures that may require a heat transfer fluid system that provides both heating and cooling. This type of heat transfer system configuration works best when one single fluid can be used to effectively transfer heat over the complete temperature range specified. Therminol heat transfer fluids have been extensively used in the manufacturing of both plastics and resins. Producers have found the versatility and reliability of Therminol heat transfer fluids make them ideal for use in their production facilities.
Plastics and resin production usually requires moderate reaction temperatures. If process temperature requirements are below 290° C (550°F), Therminol 55 is a low cost fluid that will provide many years of service. When heating and cooling are both necessary to operate a process, Therminol 59 should be considered because of its high thermal stability up to 315° C (600° F), and its superior low temperature properties that help improve cooling rates. For reaction temperatures from 315°C to 345°C (600°F to 650°F), Therminol 66 is the fluid of choice because of its superior thermal stability and low-pressure operation. All three of these fluids provide low-pressure operation, which eliminates the need for expensive, high pressure rated equipment.
