Heat transfer fluids – Asphalt Heating Applications

Therminol® heat transfer fluids are used in many asphalt processing industry applications. Heat transfer fluid systems are used to maintain asphalt at specific temperatures at bulk terminals which store and process asphalt. Roofing material plants, which use asphalt as a raw material for shingle production, require heat transfer fluid systems for heating the asphalt storage and material transfer system components. Barges that transfer asphalt maintain liquidity of their cargo with an on-board heat transfer fluid system. Therminol heat transfer fluids are well suited for use in these applications.

Therminol 55 is the most commonly used synthetic heat transfer fluid in asphalt processing because of its ability to provide long term, low cost performance.

Therminol 59 is frequently used for these applications in climates where ultra-low temperature pumpability is desired. Therminol heat transfer fluids are highly resistant to the effects of oxidation, a major benefit in these applications where open expansion tanks are common.
